Mohan Rangan is a well known musician who was inspired to learn
flute from his father Sri H. D. Govindaraj, whom he lost early in
his life. His memories motivated him to develop the hobby he had -
playing the flute. At an early age, in 1979, he started his flute
career under the tutelage of Vidwan S.A. Sashidhar at Vijaya College
of Music, Bangalore. Currently he is pursuing music under the
guidance of Sangeetha Kalarathna Prof. H.V. Krishnamurthy,
Principal, Vijaya College of Music.
Mohan and his brother Ravi Kiran made their debut at the Bangalore
Gayana Samaj where they played in the Junior concert seasons. The
brothers were awarded the "Best Main Musician" and "Best
Concert" Prizes. Having performed in many highly prestigious
Sabhas in Chennai and Bangalore they have won many accolades such as
the T. R Mahalingam "Best Artiste Prize". Prominent critics
from The Hindu and Sruthi Magazine have recognised the brothers as
having "regaled the audience with their melodious flute duet.
They are reknowned for their "accuracy of form of ragas"
and neat "swaraprasthara". Mohan and Ravi are also graded
All India Radio artists.
Mohan teaches flute to avid learners in Vijaya College of Music.
By profession Mohan works as software engineers by in Synopsys,
Banglaore, striving to do his best in both professions. Mohan's
common goal is to grow immensely and gain experience and popularity
by playing in prestigious Sabhas while maintaining manodharma and
adherence to tradition. Mohan and his brother Ravi Kiran have
performed flute duets at various prestigous sabhas including:
Karnataka Gana Kala Parishat, Saraswathi Gana Sabha, Shankar Matt,
Karnataka Association for Percussive Arts, Guruvayurappan Bhajana
Samaj all located in Banglore, as well as Ayyanar College of Music
started more than 5 decades ago by Legendary violinist Sangeetha
Rathna Mysore T. Chowdiah and the prestigous and nearly a century old
Bangalore Gayana Samaj. Mohan and Ravi Kiran have also performed at
prestigious sabhas in Chennai including Narada Gana Sabha, Sastri
Hall, (Naada Inbam), Krishna Gana Sabha (Best Artist Prize), Asthika
Samaj (Thiruvanmayur), T.T.D. Kalakrithi
