Smt. Prabhavathy Ganesan is one of the senior Veena artistes in Carnatic Music
for over three decades. She had her initial training under Veena maestro
Shri Chitti Babu. While imbibing his spirit of playing Veena, noted for
its melody, Prabhavathy Ganesan, over the years has developed a style of
her own in interpreting the subtelities of the instrument to provide a
highly sensitive and melodious effect. As one of the critic wrote "she
makes the veena sing" and she handles the veena with the deftness of a
painter wielding his brush.
Smt. Prabhavathy Ganesan has a delightfully mature touch and combines effortlessly
power and grace. Her raga alapanas are brisk and crisp. Her specialties
are good volume, firm and sure mettus and delicate fingering.
Her lively classical style bears testimony to her individual vidwat which she
has been constantly updating and upgrading. It is rare to find an artist
who "breathes" music 18 hours a day. She had taken lessons from late Sri.
D.K. jayaraman, which has lent a vocal character to her veena. She has
also learnt several thillanas and krithis from Lalgudi G. Jayaraman. Now
she is receiving advanced guidance from Sri. T.N. Sheshagoplan. Smt. Prabhavathy
Ganesan has been giving regular programs for AIR since 1958 and dooradarshan.
