The great Mridangam maestro and vocalist, T.V.G. , as he is popularly known, was born in Tripunithura (Kerala). TVG enjoys a rich musical heritage. For over 200 year, his forbears adorned the court of Cochin Royalty. His father Shri. T.G. Viswanatha Bhagavathar was a great exponent of music and from him TVG learnt the complexities of the inimitable music. His Uncle Shri Narayanaswmy Iyer taught him Mridangam.
 
TVG was complete master, a little maestro at the of six when he gave his maiden concert before the last viceroy of India, Lord Linlithgow. By virtue of the long association of over three decades with his guru the Doyen of Carnatic Music, Padmabhushan late Shri. Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar.
 
TVG has worked hard to bring Carnatic Classical Music and Hindustani music to Europe, United states and other Western countries for nearly two decades by participation in festivals, concerts and workshop cum lecture demonstrations.
 
As is well known in music circle s, TVG has been unique in having spotted talent and prodigies in music and brought them to lime light in the past 25 years He has introduced the largest number of performing young artistes to the world of music like Ilayaraja, Kadri Gopalnath, T.V.Vaasan, Vidyabhushana, Rajkumar Bharathi, Bhupinder Singh, Sankaran Nambudiri, V.Suresh, Devi, Rajasekhar, Pavan, Madhu Balakrishnan, A.K.Devi, Seigfried Kutterer, Andre Fertier, Herbert Lang, and many others who are being groomed to illuminate the performing arena!
 
The World is his audience ?and he has thrilled listeners the world over! His duets or jugal bhandhis with the great tabla masters like late Pandit Chaturlal, Ustad Alla Rakha, Pandit Shamta prasad and others, have taken the world by storm. He has dazzled thousands of listeners by his performances in the illustrious company of the musicians - George Harrison (Beatles) in USA, solo now of West Germany and Pierre Favre of Paris etc. Amidst his multifarious activities like Performing teaching, organising festivals to propogate Indian cultural heritage. Prof.TVG is also the associate Professor for Music in Birla Institute of Technology (Bits) Pilani. He is intensely engaged in the Practice of Nada Yoga and doing extensive research in the areas of voice culture, frequency analysis in the realm of music therapy.
